South Asia’s first election since the coronavirus pandemic is underway in Sri Lanka as the country votes to elect a new Parliament.

Voting began at 7am today (Wednesday) and will close at 5pm.

Sri Lanka will elect a new 225 member Parliament at the election, which is being held under strict guidelines implemented to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Voters, who are undergoing self-quarantine at home but have completed a 14-day period at quarantine centers have been requested to vote between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m in special polling booths at the polling centers.

However, there will be no provisions for those still in quarantine centers to vote.  (Colombo Gazette)
