Heavy rain was experienced in several parts of the country today resulting in some areas being flooded.
The Department of Meteorology said that heavy rain was experienced in the Colombo, Gampaha, Galle, Ratnapura and Kegalle districts this morning.
Officials said that parts of Colombo were flooded this morning as a result of the heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology said that the prevailing showery conditions in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces is expected to continue during for the next 12 hours commencing at 8am today.
Heavy rainfalls about 100mm are likely at some places.
Due to the active cloudiness in the sea area to the south of Sri Lanka, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the above sea areas.
The possibility for heavy showers/thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the above given deep sea areas is high.
The sea area extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle can be rough at times as the wind speeds can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times.
Naval and fishing communities have been requested to be vigilant in this regard. (Colombo Gazette)
