Number of coronavirus patients at Kandakadu rises to 550

The number of coronavirus patients at the Kandakadu treatment and rehabilitation center rose to 550 today.

The?National Operation Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said that another 10 people were detected with the virus by 6 this morning.

Of the 10 NOCPCO said that nine were linked to Kandakadu while the other person was a returnee from India.

NOCPCO said that as of 6 this morning a total of 550 people had been detected with the virus at?Kandakadu.

Of them, 444 are inmates being rehabilitated at the Kandakadu treatment and rehabilitation center while 64 are staff members and 42 are close contacts.

The coronavirus outbreak was reported at the rehabilitation centre after an inmate from the Welikada prison in Colombo, who had received treatment at the centre for a period of 3 months, had tested positive for COVID-19. (Colombo Gazette)

Gates shut for over 20 CPC employees who went on strike

The gates have been shut for over 20 Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) employees who went on strike.
