CID questions Ranil over Central Bank treasury bond scam

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) questioned former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe over the Central Bank treasury bond scam today.

A CID team visited his residence Colombo this evening to record the statement.

They left after recording a statement for approximately four hours.

The Central Bank treasury bond scam had taken place when Wickremesinghe was Prime Minister and former Minister Ravi Karunanayake was the Finance Minister.

Attorney General Dappula de Livera had last month directed Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne to record statements from former President Maithripala Sirisena and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the Central Bank treasury bond scam.

The Acting IGP had also been directed to record a statement from the former Advisor to the Prime Minister S. Paskaralingam and the former General Manager of the People’s Bank.

Investigations had found that the public suffered a loss of Rs. 11.5 billion as a result of the treasury bond scam. (Colombo Gazette)
