Nearly 180 Sri Lankan fishermen stranded near Indonesia to return

Nearly 180 Sri Lankan fishermen stranded near Indonesia owing to bad weather are to return to Sri Lanka.

The fishermen on 30 boats had headed towards Indonesia after being alerted of the storm in Sri Lankan waters after they had gone to sea.

The Fisheries Department said that with the storm now moving away the fishermen will begin their journey back home.

Boats with fuel have been deployed to assist the fishermen during their return journey.

On the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa a Navy ship will be deployed tomorrow (Thursday) to provide any assistance to the boats. (Colombo Gazette)
