The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) hopes to hand over a letter on the General Election 2020 to the National Election Commission.
General Secretary of the SLFP Dayasiri Jayasekera told the Colombo Gazette that the letter will contain a number of criteria identified by the party on holding the election during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the decision was taken during the SLFP Central Working Committee meeting held yesterday, under the patronage of Party Leader and former President Maithripala Sirisena.
The General Election 2020 which was scheduled to be held on 25 April was postponed to 20 June due to the coronavirus outbreak in Sri Lanka.
A number of Fundamental Rights petitions filed challenging the new date to hold the election are being considered by the Supreme Court. (Colombo Gazette)
