Several websites in Sri Lanka hacked by ‘Tamil Eelam Cyber Force’

Several websites in Sri Lanka have been hacked by a group calling itself the ‘Tamil Eelam Cyber Force’, officials said.

The websites seem to have been hacked or defaced to mark the end of the war on 18 May in 2009.

The same group had launched similar cyberattacks on Sri Lankan websites in the past as well.

The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) and the Sri Lanka Air Force Cyber command room have taken steps to rectify the issues.

SLCERT spokesman Ravindu Meegasmulla told Colombo Gazette that five websites had initially been hacked.

He said that an investigation has been launched to locate the origin of the cyberattack.

Among the websites that were found hacked this morning (Monday) were that of a media organisation, a diplomatic mission and several private and state entities.

SLCERT has already setup a 24/7 task force consisting of key stakeholders to tackle the expected cyberattacks. (Colombo Gazette)
