GR tells state officials to follow his policies or leave

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has told state officials to follow his policies or say they cant and step down.

Rajapaksa told officials at a meeting today (Thursday) that they should know what his policies are.

“You know what my policies are. You will either need to act according to that or say you can’t and leave. That is what I have to say,” the President said.

He said that when the Government takes forward a policy all state departments must ensure that policy is implemented.

“I don’t care if it is a secretary or a head of department,” he added.

The President said that he is doing things the right way and if the right policies cannot be implemented there is no pint in having public sector officials.

Meanwhile, at a separate meting the President requested the banking sector to deviate from conventional thinking and support the country as it attempts to rebuild the economy which has been badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘The government was able to keep the corona virus under control. The biggest challenge we face right now is to rebuild the collapsed economy. It will take a long time for the apparel industry to recover. The tourism industry also has suffered a serious setback. A very large amount of revenue and jobs have been lost. The old economic model based largely on imports is no longer viable. We must move towards a production economy. The banking sector can make a huge contribution to make this a success,” the President said.

President Rajapaksa said that all sections of the administration, including the health sector, have worked with commitment to overcome the corona menace and he expects a similar contribution from the banking sector as well. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Clear dictatorial stance. Not a leader to motivate and be effective.
Why doesn’t this Prez can’t think of what the challenges to implementing his policies?
The haphazard and ever changing policies of this government have been confusing perhaps?

Banks ought to think outside of the box like how to invite black foreign money into the country into the special accounts made possible by this government?

    Maithri Sirisena #2.

  2. To the point. We need to improve the govt service. The public does not get a decent deal. Bribery, corruption, and chaotic way the departments are run. We need disciplined, accountable and capable public servants.

  3. The Policy of anybody being able to deposit Foreign Currency without a question is alarming. Tailor made for the people who got stashes of black money ! This policy will be short lived until
laundered money is safely in Banks !

  4. What if the policy is good for the country (as per the President ) but the policy is not within the law. Have the officials to follow or get out

  5. In some govt offices, minor employees are being negotiators. If you want to get a job done, the minor employees is the middle man and the mouthpiece. We need to change the government office culture in some offices.
