The deadlock over the 20 June Parliamentary election continued today despite talks held between the National Elections Commission and political party secretaries.
Sources said that at a meeting held today, political party secretaries had requested the National Elections Commission to reach a final decision on the election.
The election is scheduled for 20 June but the date of the election has been challenged in the Supreme Court as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Colombo Gazette learns that the National Elections Commission is awaiting the outcome of the court ruling to decide.
Further discussions with the National Elections Commission and political party secretaries are scheduled to take place tomorrow (Wednesday).
The Parliamentary election was to be held on 25 April but was later postponed as a result of the pandemic.
However, with the situation not fully under control there are demands for the election to be pushed back further. (Colombo Gazette)
