Number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka continues to rise

The total number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka rose to 863 this morning.

Army Commander, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that seven more persons infected with COVID-19 were reported overnight.

He said among the 16 cases detected yesterday, 13 were identified as Navy personnel.

One person was identified to have associated with an infected Navy officer and currently in quarantine, while the remaining two are returnees from Dubai.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health says among the infected patients, 533 are active cases of COVID-19.

Close to 116 individuals are admitted to various hospitals on suspicion of having contracted the virus.

The Ministry said 321 patients, including a Chinese woman, have recovered so far and have been discharged from hospital.

It added that 9 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported so far in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
