A retired doctor has been arrested in Panadura for carrying out illegal abortions.
The doctor had been operating a medical center where the abortions had been carried out.
The Police said that following information received a raid was carried out and the retired doctor and a woman were arrested.
A Police decoy was sent to the doctor seeking an abortion and the doctor had sought Rs. 70,000 to carry out the abortion.
The doctor was arrested when the abortion was to be carried out on the Police decoy.
Earlier, the Police had raided a house in which the suspects had stayed and found abortion pills and weapons. (Colombo Gazette)
