AG advises EC to follow existing laws

The Attorney General (AG) has advised the National Election Commission on the Parliamentary Elections 2020.

The Coordinating Officer of the AG State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the AG advised the Election Commission that it is required to follow the procedure established by law for the conduct of? the Parliamentary polls 2020.

She said the AG?s directive to the Election Commission comes on the advice? sought by the Commission today.?

The Parliamentary polls was scheduled to be held on 25 April, but was put on hold due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
