Public life, institutional activities in Colombo to resume from 11 May

Public life and institutional activities in the Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Puttalam districts will resume from 11 May.

Officials said that while public life and institutional activities resume from 11 May the curfew will be in place in order to enforce restrictions on movements and certain activities.

The curfew was to be relaxed in these districts on 4 May but will now continue.

The President’s Media Division said that the curfew in the other 21 districts will be in force from 8.00 pm to 5.00 am until May 6.

The curfew will be re-imposed at 8.00 pm on May 6 in these districts and will be in effect until 5.00 am on May 11.

The President’s Media Division (PMD) said that public and private institutions must resume functions from Monday in order to restore civilian life and economic life, including the maintenance of essential services, in these districts.

The Heads of institutions will be instructed to make necessary arrangements in this regard, taking into account service requirements.

All institutions have been advised to ensure health guidelines imposed by the authorities are strictly followed in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The private sector has been instructed to open offices at 10.00 am.

Unnecessary public movement on roads will be prohibited in order to contain the spread of the virus. (Colombo Gazette)




  1. Finally the leaders are on the right track, banning the public gathering is a wise move, especially the religious activities. This is a good time to encourage people to learn additional skills or language. Public and private sectors should encourage the people to learn additional skills or language by giving pay rise or promotions. Slowly, the government must move the people from race, language and religious ideology trouble makers to knowledge and skillful citizens.
