Former Chairman of Nawalapitiya MC arrested

The former Chairman of the Nawalapitiya Municipal Council (MC) was arrested last night on charges of violating curfew and quarantine laws.

The Police said the suspect, who is a member of the United National Party (UNP), was arrested along with 7 other persons in the Ambagamuwa area in Ginigathhena.

The suspects had been consuming alcohol and were engaged in gambling at a hotel in Ginigathhena, in violation of the curfew and quarantine laws.

They are to be produced before the Hatton Magistrate?s Court today. (Colombo Gazette)

Report by UNP committee on Ranjan’s claims handed over

The report by the committee appointed by the United National Party (UNP) to investigate claims made by State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake that some Parliamentarians use cocaine, was handed over to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today. The 40th session of the UN Human Rights Council opened in Geneva today with Sri Lanka on the agenda.
