Four killed in suspected murder-suicide in Ampara

Four people, including two police officers, were killed in a suspected murder-suicide in Ampara. The Police said that a woman, her daughter and a policeman were shot dead. Another policeman had also committed suicide inside a Police Station. The Police suspected that the policeman who committed suicide had murdered the woman, her daughter and the other policeman before committing suicide. Further investigations are underway. Government to apologize to Sri Lanka’s Muslims for forced cremations

Cabinet has approved a proposal for the Government to apologize to Muslims and others for the forced cremations carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka. The Government noted that, as stipulated in the guidelines published by the Ministry of Health on the Clinical Management of COVID-19, cremation was recommended as a methodology, for the disposal of dead bodies of the persons who died due to the COVID-19 virus. Accordingly, 276 Muslims who had passed away as a result of the virus

Interim order issued against Deshabandu from functioning as IGP

An interim order has been issued preventing Deshabandu Tennakoon from functioning as the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The interim order was issued by the Supreme Court based on nine petitions filed by several parties including the head of the Catholic Church in Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith. The petitioners had challenged the decision by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to appoint Tennakoon as the IGP. ?(Colombo Gazette)
