AG’s Department cleared to resume work

The Attorney General’s (AG) Department has been cleared by the Health Ministry to resume work, the AG’s Coordinating Officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said.

The Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasingh has informed the AG that the Department can resume work.

However, the AG’s Department has been advised to adhere to the health guidelines issued by the Health Ministry.

Attorney General (AG) Dappula De Livera had earlier sought clearance from the relevant authorities to gain access and resume work at the AG’s Department in the wake of PCR tests of all private security officers proving negative for COVID -19.

In a letter to the Director of the State Intelligence Service, seen by Colombo Gazette, Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, P.C. noted that steps were taken by the Colombo Municipal Council, to disinfect the premises no sooner that information came to light after a security officer contracted the coronavirus.

Dharmawardena, who wrote on behalf of the AG, had said that as a result of discovery of the said COVID-19 patient the premises of the Department had been declared as out of bounds to all staff and it remains so up to date.

The AG had been informed that 06 private security personnel, who supposedly had
contact with the said lady security officer, tested negative for the virus.

Thereafter, the State Intelligence Service had sought information with regard to details of all persons, who visited the Attorney General’s Department on 19 March and accordingly those details were provided.

It has been revealed that only two staff members had visited the Attorney Generals’
Department on that day.

Under these circumstances, the AG had requested the State Intelligence Service to inform him if it is now safe and permissible to permit officers and staff to visit the Attorney General’s Department and resume the normal course of work. (Colombo Gazette)
