The Government has urged the private sector to approach Commercial Banks to resolve issues surrounding salary payments due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Co- Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said Minister of Skills Development and Employment and Labour Dinesh Gunawardena is looking into the matter.
He said it was not reasonable and consciously correct to sack employees at a time like this due to the inability to pay salaries by private sector companies.
The Government has already created concessions to the private sectors by instructing banks to grant loans with a 4% interest rate. Private Sector Companies have been urged to reach out to their relevant Commercial Banks and obtain the loans to pay the salaries of their employees, Minister Gunawardena said.
He added that private companies can obtain the loans by providing their previous payment slips as necessary documents to obtain the loans. (Colombo Gazette)
