Steps taken to safeguard Sri Lankans amidst rise of COVID-19 in Italy

The Foreign Relations Ministry in coordination with the Sri Lanka Embassy in Rome and the Consulate General Office in Milan has taken action to closely monitor and coordinate efforts to ensure the safety of Sri Lankans residing in Italy, following the recent rise of COVID-19 cases, particularly in the Lombardy Region. Probe to be conducted on suspicious breakdowns at Norochcholai

An investigation is to be launched into suspicious breakdowns at the Norochcholai coal power plant. Cabinet spokesman Bandula Gunawardena told reporters today that the cabinet had been briefed on the several breakdowns at the Norochcholai coal power plant. He said that the breakdowns had occurred at a time a programme was launched to purchase power from private suppliers. Sri Lanka appeals to Nigeria to release detained crew members

Sri Lanka has appealed to Nigeria to release seven Sri Lankan crew members who were on a ship detained by the Nigerian Navy. The Nigerian Navy had intercepted the foreign vessel MT Zeebrugge in Nigerian waters while transporting 838 metric tons of crude oil on 12 December 2019 along with seven Sri Lankan crew members on board.
