Archbishop demands action against politicians for negligence

The Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, today demanded action against politicians for negligence which led to the Easter Sunday attacks.

In a special message today to mark one year since the 2019 attacks, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said that politicians and others from the highest in office to the lowest, must be held accountable.

He said that despite receiving intelligence information prior to the attacks the information was disregarded.

“No leader can be allowed to play with the lives of the people,” he asserted.

The Archbishop of Colombo said that ongoing investigations into the attack initiated by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa must be strengthened.

He appealed to the President not to succumb to any pressure and ensure the investigations move forward.

The Archbishop of Colombo said that historically most investigations have been swept under the carpet. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Regret , Most Holy Rev. Cardinal cannot demand, He must allow the Law to take its course, not a slow course, but a speedier course. His concerns are justifiable and definitely on sound grounds. We will watch how judicature handles the issues.

  2. Dear Cardinal,

You have forgiven the culprits of this cold blooded massacre. What do you expect the GOSL to do now?

As for the forty two tourists who lost their lives in Sri Lanka, how can their image of this nation be adversely affected any further ?

The shedding of “crocodile tears” by medieval barbarians is not an indication of solidarity, but rather a lure into a false sense of security.

Thankfully we now have capable people at the helm, and hopefully your next speech is now in the distant future.
