Polls chief to meet party leaders tomorrow

National Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya is to meet political party leaders tomorrow with regards to the Parliamentary election.

Former United National Party Parliamentarian Dr. Harsha de Silva said that the National Election Commission Chairman will meet the party leaders in batches.

The Parliamentary election was to be held on 25 April but the election has since been postponed as a result of the coronavirus.

There have been reports that the election would likely be held next month.

Dr. Harsha de Silva, who met the Election Commission Chairman today, said that concerns have been raised over moves to hold the election in an environment where the coronavirus is still a threat in the country.

He said that while an election is needed, it should not be priority at this moment. (Colombo Gazette)

Bambalapitiya flyover to be demolished and replaced

The flyover connected to the Bambalapitiya railway station is to be demolished and replaced on the instructions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Nagai-Sri Lanka boat service trial run successful

HSC Cheriyapani, the high-speed vessel that will ferry passengers between Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai in the northern province of Sri Lanka from October 10, held a trial run on Sunday.? The first and only trial run was held at around 9.30 am. The vessel, operated by a 15-member crew, covered 60 nautical miles in less than four hours at 36 knots and arrived at Kankesanthurai at around 1.15 pm.
