Wine stores possessing authorized licences by the Department of Excise have been permitted to sell liquor during non- curfew hours.
The Spokesman to the Excise Department, Deputy Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe said wine stores will be permitted to sell liquor only in areas where the islandwide Police curfew for COVID-19 has been relaxed.
The Commissioner General of Excise has drawn the decision on the advice of the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Policy Development.
Wine stores will only be allowed to operate subject to COVID-19 safety regulations, such as Ministry of Health guidelines and social distancing, Kumarasinghe said.
He added that all officials of the Department of Excise have been instructed to take maximum action on wine stores with the Department’s authorized licences that fail to comply with COVID-19 safety regulations. (Colombo Gazette)
