A total of 119 suspects have been arrested so far in connection to the Easter Sunday terror attacks that occurred in April last year killing over 250 persons and injuring over 500.
Addressing a special media briefing today, Police Spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne said the suspects were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Detention orders have been obtained against 40 suspects under the CID to be interrogated, he said.
Meanwhile, 78 suspects have been arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) , the Police Spokesman said.
He said detention orders have been obtained against 52 suspects under the TID for interrogation.
SP Senaratne further said that 33 suspects have been imprisoned so far in connection to the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
The Police Department intends to complete the investigations at the earliest , he added.
Meanwhile, commenting on the arrest of former Minister Rishard Bathiudeen’s brother Riyad Bathiudeen yesterday in connection to the Easter Sunday terror attacks, SP Senratne said steps are being taken to obtain the Attorney General’s advise in this regard.
Riyad Bathiudeen was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and a detention order has been obtained against him to be interrogated, he said. (Colombo Gazette)
