Seven suspects have been arrested for spreading fake news on social media related to the coronavirus, the Police media unit said today.
The Police said that the suspects were arrested based on investigations carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The Police said that the seven suspects were arrested between Friday and Sunday (yesterday).
Most of those arrested were produced before a Magistrate and remanded while the rest will be produced before a Magistrate today.
The Police said that as of today (Monday) 16 suspects have been arrested for spreading false information with regards to the coronavirus.
The Police media unit said that the CID will continue investigations and arrest anyone spreading misinformation on the coronavirus using social media. (Colombo Gazette)
