Orphaned child drowns in Wellawatte

An orphaned child fell into a canal in Wellawatte and drowned this afternoon, the police media unit said. The police said that the 9 year old boy was living at the children’s home in Dharmarama road, Wellawatte. The police identified the child as Mohommad Milnath. The Wellawatte police are conducting further investigations.

Ranawaka raises concerns over sanctions

Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka today raised concerns over the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran. Ranawaka said that the sanctions will adversely affect Sri Lanka?s right to electricity, the Power and Energy ministry said. The Ministry said that Ranawaka had briefed the Ambassadors of Iran and Russia this morning regarding his concerns.

Mother gives birth to quintuplets

A mother has given birth to five children at the Castle Street hospital in Borella. Doctors of the hospital said that the five children were born a few days ago and they were in good health. The children were taken home today by their parents after obtaining clearance from the doctors. (Colombo Gazette)
