Former Archbishop of Colombo passed away

Former Archbishop of Colombo, His Lordship Nicholas Marcus Fernando passed away today.

He was 87 years old at the time of his demise.

His Lordship, who was born in December 1932, was appointed as the Priest of Colombo, Sri Lanka in December 1959.

He was thereafter appointed as the Archbishop of Colombo in March 1977 and was later ordained as the Archbishop of Colombo in May 1977.

His Lordship resigned as the Archbishop of Colombo in July 2002. (Colombo Gazette)

Teen among three arrested over Kuliyapitiya accident

A 14-year-old boy was among three people arrested over an accident in Kuliyapitiya in which one person was killed. The three people had been in a Defender vehicle which crashed into a motorcycle killing the rider. The accident claimed the life of a 39-year-old man. CPSTL to cancel licence of fuel transporters who strike

Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) is to cancel the licence of fuel transporters who go on strike. Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that CPSTL has been instructed to immediately open up registration for new suppliers to transport fuel and to cancel the registration of suppliers who fail to report to duty.
