Number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka rises

One more COVID- 19 patient was detected in Sri Lanka today, raising the total number of infected patients to 190.

The Ministry of Health said 134 patients among the infected have been identified as active cases.

A total of 242 patients are under observation in hospitals on suspicion of having contracted the virus.

Meanwhile, 2 more patients infected with COVID-19 have recovered and were discharged from hospital today.

The Ministry of Health said a total 49 patients, including 48 Sri Lankans and one Chinese woman, have recovered so far and have been discharged from hospital.

Seven deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported so far in Sri Lanka, it added. (Colombo Gazette)

Government claims money from MiG deal stored in Hong Kong

The Government claims money allegedly obtained fraudulently by the former regime through the MiG aircraft deal is stored at a bank in Hong Kong. Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that the former Government purchased a MiG aircraft from Ukraine for USD 7.2 million yet the official documents show the aircraft had been purchased for USD 14.7 million. Senaratne claimed that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa had taken USD 7.5 million and it was now stored at a bank in Hong Kong.
