Curfew in Colombo to remain until further notice

The islandwide Police curfew imposed in the Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Puttalam, Kandy and Jaffna Districts will remain in effect until further notice.

The President’s Media Division (PMD) said the above mentioned districts have been identified as high risk areas for the spreading of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the Police curfew imposed in the other 19 Districts will be lifted at 06.00 a.m. tomorrow (09) and will be reimposed at 04.00 p.m. the same day.

The PMD further said the curfew will be relaxed for the 19 Districts once again at 06.00 a.m. on Tuesday (14) and reimposed at 04.00 p.m. the same day.

Areas in the Colombo, Kalutara and Kandy Districts that were declared as isolation zones, will remain so until further notice, it added.

The Government has requested the public to strictly limit to family members only  any celebrations conducted in view of the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year. (Colombo Gazette)

While we should not throw caution to the winds, it is time to have the shops replenished with essential goods and lift the curfew for those hours applied to other districts, so that people could come out and form the disciplined que and for a limited number of people to enter and purchase a certain allowable amount of goods. A police or service guard should be posted outside as well.
