Fifth coronavirus death reported in Sri Lanka

The fifth death due to the coronavirus in Sri Lanka was reported this morning.

The Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said the deceased has been identified as a 44 year- old male from Homagama.

The individual had been placed at a quarantine centre after returning from Italy and had been transferred to the Welikanda Hospital on 23 March, he said.

Dr. Jasinghe added that he was later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on 26 March.

The patient is reported to have had no other ailments.

The four other deaths due to the coronavirus in Sri Lanka, were reported from Marawila, Negombo, Maradana and Ratmalana.

The Ministry of Health said 159 patients are confirmed to have contracted COVID- 19 in Sri Lanka.?

It said 24 patients, including 23 Sri lankans and a Chinese woman, have so far recovered and were discharged from Hospitals.

Meanwhile, 130 active coronavirus cases have been reported, with 250 persons receiving treatment on suspicion of having contracted the virus.(Colombo Gazette)
