Task Force in the dark over food not reaching some areas

The Special Presidential Task Force on Essential Supplies says it has not received any reports of shortages on the distribution of essential items to certain areas in the country during the Police curfew.

An islandwide Police curfew is currently in effect to curb the spread of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka.

Head of Media Coordination for the Task Force Professor Charitha Herath told the Colombo Gazette that rumours are being spread in this regard, but when inquired specific areas are not mentioned.

Herath said if specific areas are pointed out, then the Special Presidential Task Force on Essential Supplies will instruct relevant area officials to inquire into the matter, and thereafter take measures to ensure the continuous supply of essential items to the affected areas.

The Special Presidential Task Force on Essential Supplies is not directly involved in the distribution of essential items, but coordinates the process of delivery with private organizations and vendors, he pointed out.

Professor Charitha Herath urged the public to inform the Special Presidential Task Force on Essential Supplies if there are any shortages in the distribution of essential items to certain areas during the Police curfew.
