Legal action against posts defaming public servants

01 Apr, 2020

Strict legal action is to be taken against those who post false and defamatory content on social media criticizing public servants.

The Police Media Unit said that posts and videos are being circulated on social media threatening, criticizing and pointing out the shortfalls of public servants preventing them from carrying out their duties.

Public servants are carrying out their duties to their best ability and in an efficient manner at a time when the country is facing a crisis due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Police pointed out.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has instructed the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and all Police Stations to arrest and produce in court individuals identified as having shared and circulated posts and videos defaming public servants.
