The use of polythene lunch sheets, rigifoam lunch boxes and shopping bags will be banned from September. A proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to implement short term, medium term and long term activities recommended by the committee of intellectuals appointed in this regard, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. Seven Indian fishermen detained near Delft Island for poaching

Seven Indian fishermen along with two boats were detained by the?Sri Lankan Navy near Delft Island for poaching in Sri Lankan waters, the Navy said today. President Sirisena leaves for Bangladesh on official visit

President Maithripala Sirisena left for Bangladesh today on an official visit. The President is scheduled to sign several agreements during the three day visit.
