Number of coronavirus patients rises

Four more patients were reported to have contracted the coronavirus in Sri Lanka as of 04.30 p.m. today.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said the total number of patients infected with Covid-19 stands at 110.

Meanwhile, 2 more patients infected with coronavirus have recovered and were discharged from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) in Angoda today.

A total of 9 patients, including 8 Sri Lankans and a Chinese woman, have so far been discharged from IDH after complete recovery.

The Epidemiology Unit said the patients were discharged after a number of tests were carried out to ascertain their complete recovery.

The number of active Covid-19 patients has reduced to 97, with 199 others currently receiving treatment in hospitals across the country on suspicion of having contracted the virus. (Colombo Gazette)

Elephant goes on a rampage injuring 13 people in Kataragama

An elephant went on a rampage in Kataragama injuring at least 13 people. The Police said the elephant was part of the Ruhunu Kataragama Mahadevala perahera (pageant) held on Friday night. The elephant was seen on video, being shared on social media, getting agitated and running amok. People who had gathered to witness the pageant scrambled out of fear causing a mini stampede. The Police said that the 13 people injured in the incident were admitted to hospital for treatment. (Colombo Gazette)
