Sri Lankan man dies of coronavirus in Switzerland

A 59 year – old Sri Lankan has died after contracting the coronavirus in Switzerland.

Spokesperson to the Ministry of Foreign Relations Ruwanthi Delpitiya said that the victim was identified as a Sri Lankan male living in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Berlin has informed the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Relations that Swiss authorities have confirmed that the man had tested positive for covid-19, she said.

Delpitiya added that the deceased is from Pungudutivu in the Northern Province and held a resident permit in Switzerland.

Meanwhile, recent reports circulated in the media of a 70 year -old Sri Lankan man being found dead in Italy due to the coronavirus has been confirmed as fake news.

Ruwanthi Delpitiya said that Italian officials had confirmed that no such incident was reported. (Colombo Gazette)
