Health workers dealing with coronavirus patients face social stigma

Local health workers are facing social stigma as a result of the work they do to treat coronavirus patients.

The Health Ministry said that some health workers have been asked to vacate their places of lodging.

Director General of Health Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that health workers are working very hard to treat the coronavirus patients.

He reminded the public that the health workers are taking a risk when dealing with coronavirus patients.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe urged the public to treat health workers like they treated the soldiers during the war.

He said the public must support local health workers at this time instead of stigmatising them for the work they do with coronavirus patients. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. This is typical of some our people. Has anyone stopped to think who is going to transport them to hospital or treat them if these people deserted their jobs ? These people are serving the community at great personal risk.

The people doing these jobs should receive National Honours for their service when this is over.

I hope the government reacts quickly to stop these people being victimised and put an end to this sort of unpatriotic behaviour.
