The Government says it is well prepared to face the challenges posed by phase 2 of the Covid-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka.
Co- Cabinet Spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana said that based on the critical measures taken by the Government so far, Sri Lanka will not move into phase 2 of Covid-19.
The Government has allocated more hospitals for the treatment of confirmed coronavirus patients and has also established 46 quarantine centres to combat the coronavirus in Sri Lanka, he pointed out.
Minister Ramesh Pathirana further said Sri Lanka was in the forefront in curtailing the spread of the virus in the country compared to more developed nations.
He said the World Health Organization (WHO) has applauded the measures taken by the Government so far to combat Covid-19.
The Minister further said that a number of local manufacturers have stepped up to manufacture essential medical equipment, such as disposable face masks, protective kits and ventilators.
Pointing out that till now Sri Lanka imported such medical equipment, he added that this latest development will benefit the local economy in the long term. (Colombo Gazette)
