The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), Commercial Banks, Insurance Services and the Treasury were declared as essential services by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today.
Health, security, Police, distribution of essential goods, Department of Excise, electricity, water and fuel supply were earlier declared as essential services by the Government.
The Presidents’ Media Division (PMD) said the CBSL has been instructed to ensure that the CBSL, Commercial Banks, Insurance Services and the Treasury operate during the islandwide Police curfew currently imposed in the country due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Secretary to the President P. B. Jayasundera had informed the Governor of CBSL Prof. W.D. Lakshman on the President’s decision, which the former said was taken to fulfill the monetary requirements of the public during the curfew.
The PMD said the public have been requested to only visit these institutions for very urgent matters and to also follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health when stepping outdoors. (Colombo Gazette)
