Seven Sri Lankans in self-isolation in Italy

Seven Sri Lankans in Italy are currently in self- isolation on suspicion of having contracted the coronavirus.

The Spokesperson to the Ministry of Foreign Relations Ruwanthi Delpitiya told Colombo Gazette that hospitals have not confirmed that they had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Delpitiya said many media reports say 8 individuals have contracted the virus.

However, the Embassy in Rome has verified that there are only 7 Sri Lankans who are currently self- quarantined on suspicion of having contracted the virus and are taking necessary measures based on medical advice, she added.

The 7 Sri lankans are reportedly from various regions in Italy, such as Lazio, Emilia- Romagna and Lombardy. (Colombo Gazette)

Five youth drown in Nawalapitiya

Five youth drowned in Nawalapitiya, in the Mahaweli river today, the police media unit said. The police said that the five youth had drowned while bathing near a suspension bridge. The youth were dragged down by strong currents and drowned, the police media unit said. A group of 12 people had gone to Adams Peak today and while returning to Gampola they had decided to go for a swim. The police said that the victims were aged between 25 and 30 years.
