Essential items to be delivered home during curfew

Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa is to lead a task force to ensure essential items are delivered home during the curfew.

The Presidential Secretariat said that traders have been advised to deliver essential goods home during the curfew.

Leading supermarkets, including Cargills, Keells and Arpico, have agreed to be part of an effort to deliver goods to the doorstep.

Already some delivery services have advertised online where groceries can be purchased online or for cash on delivery.

Health authorities have noted that a large number of people gathering near supermarkets and stores this morning when the curfew was relaxed in Colombo, did not help the fight against the coronavirus.

Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts have been identified as high risk areas for the coronavirus.

As a result, the curfew which was reimposed at 2 pm this afternoon (Tuesday) will continue indefinitely.

The Presidential Secretariat said that delivery services will be allowed to operate during the curfew. (Colombo Gazette)
