Demonstrators demand justice for youth who died in Police custody

Demonstrations were held in Sri Lanka, including opposite the Welikada Police station on Sunday, demanding justice for Sathsara Nimesh, a youth who died while in Police custody. Nimesh was arrested on 1st April following a complaint over an alleged incident and died after being admitted to hospital while in Police custody. The Police claimed the youth died from self-inflicted injuries following his arrest.

Interim order issued against LG polls in Colombo and other areas

An interim order has been issued against holding the Local Government (LG) elections in Colombo and a number of other areas. The order was issued by the Court of Appeal after writ petitions were filed by some political parties and independent groups.
