Military ship gifted by China arrives in Sri Lanka

A military ship gifted by China arrived in Sri Lanka today to be part of the Sri Lanka Navy fleet. This ship built in 1994, is 112m long and 12.4 in width and bears a displacement capacity of 2300 tons. Initial step to release land around Presidential Palace in Valikamam begins

The process of identifying lands belonging to the public surrounding the Presidential Palace in Valikamam North has begun. As the initial step of releasing 62 acres of public lands surrounding the Kankesanthurai Presidential Palace, the process of identifying the lands began with the participation of Governor of Northern Province Dr. Suren Raghavan. The activities of measuring and dividing the 62 acres of land into four zones and handing over to the public will take place today and on Monday.

Supreme Court issues interim order against death penalty

The Supreme Court today issued an interim order against the implementation of the death penalty. The Supreme Court ordered that the death penalty not be carried out till October 30. The order was given after a Fundamental Rights petition was filed in the Supreme Court against moves by President Maithripala Sirisena to execute four convicts on drug related charges. President Maithripala Sirisena said recently he has ordered the execution of four convicts on death row over drug related offences
