UNP to contest Parliamentary election under Ranil’s leadership

The United National Party (UNP) is to contest the Parliamentary election under the leadership of former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said today.

Some UNP members had been pushing for UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa to lead the UNP campaign at the Parliamentary election.

The UNP had recently given into pressure from Premadasa’s camp to nominate him as the Leader of the Opposition.

They have also been demanding that Premadasa be made the UNP leader. (Colombo Gazette)
