Russia banned from major sporting events

Russia has been served a four-year ban from all major sporting events by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada).

This includes the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo as well as the 2022 Football World Cup hosted by Qatar.

WADA?a executive committee made the unanimous decision in a meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland and comes?after Russia?s Anti Doping Agency (Rusada) was declared non-compliant for manipulating laboratory data submitted to investigators in January 2019.

Regardless of the ban, Russia will be able to compete at the Euro 2020; at which St. Petersburg will be one of the hosting cities-as UEFA, footballs governing body, is not defined as a major event when it came to decrees on anti-Doping.

Speaker will not to recognise cabinet

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has decided not to recognise the new cabinet in Parliament. He said that he will not recognise Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister in Parliament as he lost a no-confidence vote yesterday. During Parliament sittings today the Speaker referred to Rajapaksa as an MP and not Prime Minister. Vadivel Suresh extends support to UNP leader again

United National Party (UNP) Badulla district Parliamentarian Vadivel Suresh, who recently accepted a Ministerial post in the Government, today extended support to UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe once again.
