General election likely in late April

Chairman of the Elections Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya, has said that the General Election could be held at the end of April next year if Parliament is dissolved at the beginning of March.

Deshapriya said that the next Parliamentary elections can be held on either 25, 26 or 27 April if Parliament is dissolved in early March next year.

Deshapriya made these remarks while addressing the media today (4).

Government looks to identify owners of gold kept by LTTE

The Government is to take measures to identify owners of gold kept by the LTTE during the war which is now in the possession of the army and the Central Bank. Ministerial delegation heads to China to boost ties

A Ministerial delegation from Sri Lanka has left for China to boost ties between both countries, Sri Lanka?s National Policy and Economic Development Ministry said today. Court orders bank accounts of Namal’s company to be suspended

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today ordered four bank accounts of a company believed to be owned by Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa to be suspended. The order was given as part of a money laundering investigation. The case was filed by JVP Provincial Council member Wasantha Samarasinghe.
