Former Civil Aviation Minister freed from bribery case

Former Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne has been released from all charges by the Colombo High Court in the case over SriLankan Catering Limited.

Back in 2014 the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery Or Corruption (CIABOC) had filed a case against the then Minister of Civil Aviation, Priyankara Jayaratne, under the Bribery Act for allegedly influencing the Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Catering Limited to pay over Rs 330,000 belonging to SriLankan Catering to another company by the name ‘Gambada Caterers’.

When the case was taken up for hearing today (3), the Counsel representing the CIABOC has requested the court to allow the case to be withdrawn- on the grounds that it be subject to the right to reinstatement- as the case had been initially filed without the approval of the three Commissioners of the CIABOC.

Accordingly, the Court considered the request and allowed the CIABOC to withdraw the case and released Jayaratne of all charges.

Wasantha Mudalige discharged from charges under the PTA

Charge sheet prepared to remove PUCSL Chairman

A charge sheet has been prepared to remove the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Janaka Ratnayake, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara said.
