Government insists Enforced Disappearance Bill not removed

The?Government today insisted that the Enforced Disappearance Bill has not been removed from the agenda in Parliament. The Bill was to be debated yesterday but it was later decided to discuss it at a later date. Indian boats to be released on conditional basis

The Government says some Indian boats will be released on a conditional basis. Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that local fishermen had agreed to requests to release Indian boats. He said that so far no Indian boat has been freed but since local fishermen have no objections, some boats will be freed under some conditions. Lahiru Weerasekara, four others further remanded

Convener of the Inter-University Student?s Federation (IUSF), Lahiru Weerasekara and four others were further remanded till July 19 when they were produced in court today. Weerasekara was arrested on June 23rd after coming out from a press conference hosted by the IUSF in Colombo. Weerasekara was arrested over a protest staged by the IUSF in Colombo during which Health Ministry property had been damaged. (Colombo Gazette)
