SLPP says Sinhalese Buddhists defeated racism

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) says Sinhalese Buddhists united at the last Presidential election and defeated racism.

SLPP member, Parliamentarian Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena urged Tamils and Muslims in the country to support the SLPP to defeat racism.

He said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa are keen to work for the people in the North and East.

Abeywardena said that in the past political parties in the North did not promote racism. Bu this time things were different.

The SLPP member urged the Tamils and Muslims to support the SLPP at the next Parliamentary election.

A majority of the Tamils and Muslims supported New Democratic Front Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa at the Presidential election.

Petition filed against Presidential election rejected

A petition filed in the Supreme Court against the gazette notification on the 2019 Presidential election has been rejected. Former Galle Mayor Methsiri de Silva had filed the petition and named the Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya, members of the commission and the Attorney General as its respondents.
