Government urges opposition to back snap election

The Government today urged the opposition to back a snap Parliamentary election.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Chairman, Professor G.L Peiris said that the voters have given President Gotabaya Rajapaksa a clear mandate.

He said that the public must now be given the chance to elect their representatives to Parliament.

Peiris said that the President requires a 2/3rd majority in Parliament to dissolve Parliament and hold early elections.

He said that the current Parliament does not have the support of the public so the opposition must back the President to dissolve Parliament and hold snap elections.
