The Police today began operations to cleanup the environment on the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Kamal Gunaratne.
Police spokesman Ruwan Gunsekara said that the Environment Police have been tasked with ensuring Colombo and other parts of the country are kept clean.
As part of the operation, the Environment Police monitored the cleaning up of Colombo this morning by the agencies tasked with the operation.
Gunsekara said that the agencies have been advised to ensure cleaning the city begins by 5.30am every morning.
Police spokesman Ruwan Gunsekara said that the Police will work with local councils in the country to ensure their respective areas are kept clean.
Drainage systems were also cleaned during the operations carried out in Colombo today.
