India has told Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to ensure a political solution which meets the aspirations of the Tamil community.
This was conveyed to Rajapaksa by Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar when they met in Colombo this week.
Jaishankar was in Sri Lanka this week as a special envoy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
At the meeting Jaishankar had conveyed to Rajapaksa India’s desire to ensure a solution which meets the aspirations of the Tamil community, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said.
He said the solution sought for the Tamils included to live with dignity and in peace.
Kumar noted that since that meeting Rajapaksa had noted that he will be the President of all Sri Lankans irrespective of their racial identity.
The spokesman said that India is willing to work with the Government of the day in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
