Voter turnout around 50% in most areas

Voter turnout at the 2019 Presidential election was around 50% in most areas as of 12 noon today.
According to election officials, as of 12 noon voter turnout was recorded as 55% in Hambantota, 55% in Kandy, 50% in Matara, 52% in Polonaruwa, 50% in Anuradhapura, 50% in Puttalam, 60% in Badulla, 55% in Kurunegala, 56% in Matale, 50% in Vavuniya, 40 % in Colombo, 45% in Ampara, 45% in Mullaitivu, 44% in Jaffna.
Voting opened at 7am today and closes at 5pm this evening.
Nearly 16 million voters will be able to cast their votes at 12,845 polling stations throughout the country.
A record 35 candidates are vying for the top post at today?s election, which will go down in history as the presidential election with the largest number of candidates.
